In 1999 the Town of Front Royal was designated the Canoe Capital of Virginia. The town lies at the center of beautiful Warren County which is a triple threat for outdoor enthusiasts. It is the nothern gateway to Skyline Drive in beautiful Shenandoah National Park, it boasts intriguing Skyline Caverns for spelunkers, and is spanned by the legendary Shenandoah River for water lovers. Front Royal earned its title as Canoe Capital of Virginia from its position near the joining of the North and South Forks of the Shenandoah River. There is no better way to experience the beautiful scenery of Warren County than to enjoy a peaceful float down the Shenandoah River taking in the breathtaking views of the mountains and enjoying the abundant river wildlife. Bring your own canoe, kayak, raft, or tube and enjoy a relaxing day on the river. You can also rent equipment and rides from several outfitters in town.
This cache is my first one to place, but I think it will get you to a neat little spot. There are several put-ins for canoes and such to the river, but this is one that is sort of hidden. Though the canoe companies use it all the time, I had never come across it until recently. So, here is a geocache to introduce you to it as well. The cache you seek is a clear plastic container near the parking lot of this put-in.
