Geocache Description:

This is a 4 stage multi cache that was designed to be located at night. We have gone to some lengths to prevent it from being found in daylight. Bring a GOOD flashlight and plenty of batteries.

This cache is located in the US Army Corps Of Engineers' Horsehead Park. The park is closed. The gate is locked and a sign says "Park Closed Beyond This Point".

Nonnipoppy has a written letter of permission, from the park manager, to place a geocache in this park. A photo of that letter accompanies this page. Law enforcement in this area is under the jurisdiction of Johnson County Sheriff Wes Kendrick, he is aware of this use of the park.

Please mark a waypoint for your vehicle before seeking this cache. We estimate this cache to require 30-40 minutes to complete.

A Mini Mag Light will not work for spotting the reflectors, we suggest a larger Mag Light at the least. Interestingly poppy's "If a little is good then more is better" philosophy is not good in regard to extremely powerful (one million candlepower) lights. The orange reflectors on the second and third stages literally disappear with to much light. These reflectors are best seen when the light is eye level and held close to your head.

There are dangerous, tall, and steep bluffs located in this park so please be cautious. At no time will this cache hunt put you in danger from these bluffs. As you search for the second stage of this cache please do not stray south (to your right) of the old paved roadway. The bluffs are located in that direction. A pipe fence is provided along the bluff line. You should never be any closer than 40-50 feet from this fence. Please watch after small children.

This cache has four stages. Multiple reflectors mark the end of each stage. When looking for reflectors look in all directions. Stand close to the reflector you are near to find the next one.

Reflectors to the first stage are white in color. The find here is an ammo box. Inside it you will find coordinates redirecting you to the start point for the second stage (thanks to Arkansas Bugman for this technique idea). Please leave everything you find in this ammo can there.

Reflectors for the second and third stages are dimmer, somewhat orange in color. These reflectors are spaced closer together than the white ones. When you are looking for stage two and do not easily see another reflector look in all directions, from where you are, for multiple reflectors. The method of delivery of the new coordinates, at stages two and three, is different than any we have yet seen in the area. They are both fairly small, so look closely.

Reflectors for the final stage are again white. Please do not shine your light toward the residences to the north of the park. The cache is an ammo box with the usual cache swag. As a FTF prize there is an unactivated travel bug tag.

There are at least two abandoned restroom facilities in this park. They are small cinder block buildings; please stay well away from them. This cache will not take you anywhere near them.

Coordinates for this cache were read using a Garmin III and a Magellan Sport Trac Pro.
