Geocache Description:

The original Black Bridge at the entrance of the forest, was built by Poole and Klein in 1927, due to the tragic drowning of William F Brown, who tried to cross the river in flood after possum trapping.   In 1964, the bridge was washed away, and one year later, a new bridge was constructed and inherited the same name 'Old Black Bridge'  It is now owned by the Palmerston North City Council.

This bridge is used by mountain bikers and walkers entering the mountain bike park. Please do not park in front of the bridge gate.  You can easily walk from the main carpark to the bridge.

The cache is in a  black camo eclipse mint tin and contains only log book and small pencil.  Please take care when replacing the cache as not to drop it into the river below.
