This is an eight-stage multi-cache in a very scenic area. The distance is a little over three miles round trip. There are no containers to find except for the final. Along the way, you will be collecting information from markers that are very easy to find.
You may find it helpful to use the map assembled for your convenience. The route you will walk is shown in red.
Parking
Park at the coordinates given below.
Waypoint A
At N 42° 15.687 W 88° 14.371, you will find a display about "Nest Boxes for Local Wildlife." You see A nest boxes on display.
Waypoint B
N 42° 15.749 W 088° 14.222 The sign at this location discusses fire as an ecological event in the past and in the present. B is the number of words in the title of this informational panel. That title is along the bottom of the sign.
Waypoint C
N 42° 15.704 W 088° 14.019 There is a marker here for an orienteering course. C is the single digit on this marker.
Waypoint D
Continue along the trail to N 42° 15.579 W 88° 13.649 where the trail takes you across the street. There is a sign here with D icons. These icons indicate direction of travel and modes of transportation that are either allowed or disallowed. There are two identical signs on either side of the street. Choose either.
Waypoint E
N 42° 15.418 W 88° 13.531. At this spot you will see a sign with E icons.
Waypoint F
Your next stop is N 42° 15.418 W 88° 13.561. Here you will look under the bench to collect the digit F.
Waypoint G
For those of us who find it difficult to
peer under benches:
May I suggest that you bring along a small
mirror? I have written the information
at waypoint G in both standard text and
mirror image for your convenience.
Continue on the trail. Where it branches, bear right. At N 42° 15.277 W 88° 13.500 you will find a bench. Look under the bench to get the digit G and the way to assemble the digits to locate the final.
The Final
You learn the location of the final when you visit the waypoint G.
- The geocache is on McHenry County Conservation
District land with permission.
- Do not place the following items in the cache: food,
inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials.
- Absolutely no cutting of brush or other vegetation
is allowed.
- Visitors must remain on designated trails.
- It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient
themselves with the rules of the District site.
- Sites are open sunrise to sunset, however some
gates may not be open until 8am.
- At certain times of the year, sites will close for
a variety of reasons.
