Geocache Description:

Geocache at Mousetail Landing State Park. Another area here where you might not see the blue marks. You will be walking and encounter a sign for shelter 2. Walk directly past (through) the sign. To the right is a side trail to the shelter. To the left is a different trail.

The caches in this series are on the Loop portion of the Eagle Point Trail. I placed them so you can avoid the initial stretch which has a decent elevation change (allowing you to do closer to a 5.5-6 mile hike instead of an 8.5-9 mile hike, you’ll thank me later). Even with the shorter hike you will want to wear your boots, long pants to avoid insects, use bug spray, and bring lots of water.

Parking coordinates are provided for Parrish Cemetery, a very small cemetery located within the park on an unpaved road. I have a low profile 2-door car and made it with no problem. The cemetery is located at the beginning of the loop. It is quickest to take the short path through the cemetery to the trail. Note that you will be on the blue trail. The green trail is a bike trail that intersects at a few point so be careful to pay attention to your surroundings. Please stay on the trail until nearing the cache site, caches are placed within 100 feet of the blue marked trail.

There are 56 state parks in Tennessee. Mousetail Landing State Park is a 1,247 acre park located in Linden, Tennessee on the banks of the Tennessee River. Fishing is a popular activity and is permitted anywhere you can reach water. Bass, bream, crappie, stripe and catfish can be caught along the banks. Mousetail Landing State Park has 25 picnic tables with grills located throughout the park.

The park has two biking trails and three hiking trails. The Spring Trail is an easy half mile trail. The park has a day-use, three-mile trail. There is one overnight, eight-mile trail with two screened shelters. These back-country shelters have plywood bunks and each shelter sleeps eight people. This 8+ mile trail is called the Eagle Point Trail: there is a 1+ mile stretch, a 5.5 mile loop, and then you return to the 1+ mile stretch.

Permission for these caches has been granted by John Bowen, park manager.
