This cache has been archived.

USAF#1: Time to put her to rest. I enjoyed some great shore lunches a few beers, some great fellowship with friends with lots of pictures to refresh my memory as I grow older. Going to truly miss this place.

Geocache Description:

Tetu Lake on the Winnipeg River in Northwest Ontario

This cache brings you to the wilderness lakes and waterways of the Winnipeg River and is hidden at Glady's Island on Tetu Lake. The real prize for this cache is the beautiful lake and surroundings you will see on your way to make the find. Wildlife is abundant here, birds of all kinds, black bear, deer, wolves, mink, beaver and otters to name a few.

The cache is accessible only by water unless you are fortunate enough to have access to a float plane with a pilot willing to put it on the island and wait while you sign the log. Another possibly is by helicopter if you enjoy rappelling down a rope to get to the container. This could be a real adventure, depends on the method you choose. The best way is by boat, however if you wait until winter for the lake to freeze over you might reach it by snowmobile or skis. Either way, take a lunch, it is a little more than a park and grab other than by boat.

On the way to the cache be sure to get a fishing license, these are available at KCR Camp which is located on an island about six miles from the launch area. Catch a fish or two and have shore lunch on the island. I have enjoyed many shore lunches here consisting of walleye, onion rings, potatoes, Indiana tomatoes, veggies and a cool refreshing beverage. It don't get any better than that.

The closest parking for your vehicle and trailer is at the KCR landing near the whitedog hydro electric power dam. This is located just off highway 525 just two miles from the dam. There is a fee for launching your boat. Not sure about the winter months.

You are looking for a camoed pill container (large bison tube) with a log sheet. Be sure to bring a pen, the log sheet must be signed to claim the find, I would hate to see someone get that far and forget the pen. The container is very near the posted coordinates. My gpsr said I was plus or minus 10 feet when I took the reading. It may take a short search but it is definitely findable. Enjoy the challenge, looking forward to seeing a lot of cachers make the find.

Be on the look out for bears, had one on the island with us awhile back while having shore lunch. It was fun to watch people scramble for the boat, their ailments suddenly went away.
