Geocache Description:

This cache is atop Anderson Mountain (my "backyard") located in the Cibola National Forest in Catron County. Take note to the fact that I rated the Difficulty 1 Star and Terrain FIVE (5) STARS

Take Highway 60 to Highway 12 in Datil, NM. Head Southwest on 12 until you get to Forest Access Road 66 (1.75 miles +-). Pass over four (4) cattle guards and park here, N 34° 08.569 W 107° 53.593. I have made the climb over twenty times now. There are several ways to make the ascent, this is one of the easier ways. From the parking area head off to this waypoint, N 34° 08.327 W 107° 54.134, then a short way down to this waypoint N 34° 08.296 W 107° 54.155. You will be at the base of Anderson and an arroyo that will take you up to the flat. From there you can continue your way to the top of Anderson. The views in all directions are wonderful, especially to the east where you will see the VLA dishes. I made it up to the top in just over two hours, guiding four children, two adults and a dog. The elevation read 7,605' at the parking area and 8,960' at the summit, a vertical difference of 1,355'. Since the climb is tough, the cache has some nice items. The weather can change drastically, so I advise bringing foul weather gear and gloves. Water is a MUST any time of the year. I live in the Homestead Subdivision, so if you plan to visit this cache you can call me (575-772-5139)and I will be glad to watch for you and have lunch/dinner waiting for you when you get back down.
