Geocache Description:

Short walk to the third largest fortification in Carinthia (after Hochosterwitz and Landskron).
Kurzer Spaziergang zur drittgroessten Wehranlage Kaerntens (nach Hochosterwitz und Landskron).

The constructors of this castle are unknown. One assumes, that it has been bishops from Salzburg. It was mentioned for the first time in 1121. The owner was Herzog Heinrich III of the Eppensteiner-lineage. He was duke of Carinthia and Friaul. At the time emperor Friedrich I. ruled, also called Barbarossa.
Die Erbauer der Burg sind nicht bekannt. Man vermutet, dass es Salzburger Bischoefe waren. Erstmals erwaehnt wird die Burg 1121. Besitzer war Herzog Heinrich III aus dem Geschlecht der Eppensteiner. Er war Herzog von Kaernten und Friaul. Zu der Zeit regierte Kaiser Friedrich I., auch Barbarossa genannt.
