Geocache Description:

Located along the east side of the Etobicoke Creek in Etobicoke Valley Park.

The Alderwood area of Etobicoke is bounded by the Etobicoke Creek to the west, Evans Avenue to the north, Lakeshore Blvd. to the south and runs east along Horner Avenue to Connorvale Park.

Alderwood was originally known as New Toronto Park or New Toronto Heights and was comprised of very fertile farming land. In the 1920’s, the farms were subdivided for residential development. In 1933 a local post office was established and the name Alderwood became official. The name derives from the First Nations word "Etobicoke," meaning "the place where the alders grow".

Etobicoke Valley Park, located along the north-west border of Alderwood, is the finishing point for the Etobicoke Creek Interpretive Trail, a 2.5 kilometre trail which begins at the Marie Curtis Park on the shore of Lake Ontario. This nature trail was developed by the Alderwood Environmentalists in association with the city. Unfortunately most of the interpretive signs have been vandalized.

The trail itself is paved and is therefore wheelchair accessible. However, it depends on which access point you choose. There are 3 which involve steep hills or stairs. You can avoid the hills if you begin at Marie Curtis Park.

There is a parking lot at the North side of the park and the coordinates are N 43°36.292 W 79°33.414 Parking can also be found near Enfield Park at N 43°35.530 W 79°32.831 or on a side street near South Valley Park.

The container is hidden off the trail and there are usually a lot of people who use this trail so please be discreet. It is a small camoflauged plastic container.
