Geocache Description:

People that have been to see the Eagle Lake & West Branch locomotives in the North Maine Woods want to go back. And people that haven't been yet want to go. Well here is the opportunity you've been waiting for. I led groups up there in 2013 and 2015 and I know there are still folks that couldn't join us. Now is your chance as I am going again.

Now before you say "Where do I sign up" there are a few things to keep in mind. This is not an easy peasy meet and greet by any stretch of the imagination. If you think you are up for the challenge then continue reading.

To start with you will have to drive a good distance on rough gravel logging roads. Then we will meet up and begin the 3/4 mile hike to the event site. There is a North Maine Woods gate fee you will have to pay to enter the area. This is truly a gem of an wilderness. You may see moose, deer, bear, or any other type of wildlife. And of course more black flies, and mosquitoes than you will ever want to encounter again. As those two mammoth locomotives come into view it makes for an awesome sight. There will be more details in the way of announcements as we get closer to the day. Please only post will attends if you are seriously planning to go. The plan is to make it to the trains at noon. Spend some time socializing and exploring for a couple hours before we head back out. Where after a meal with some well earned beverages will be likely.

I plan to make my way up there on Friday night, likely camping at the same place as last time. They do have a few cabins as well as tenting sites. You should plan on all weather conditions as it was raining hard the last time we went up. There is no rain date. Car or Jeep pooling is highly recommended.

The day use fees have increased since the last time up. It is now $10.00 for Residents and $15.00 for Non-residents. These are per person. This is in addition to camping.
