The market town of Kendal is known as 'The auld grey town',
because of its many fine grey limestone buildings and is the
principal commercial and shopping centre of the area.
At the Gateway to the Lake District National Park, Kendal is
situated in the valley of the River Kent and surrounded on three
sides by a background of Lakeland fells and beautiful
countryside.
Markets have been held in Kendal since the granting of its
charter in 1189. On Wednesday and Saturday a traditional Farmers'
Market can be found here selling fine, local produce.
The Place was formally called 'Cheapside' and 'Mercers'
Lane'.
This is a busy area at most times particularly on market days.
Therefore searching may be best done out of shopping hours.
The area is pedestrianised and generally can only accessed on
foot. The cache site is also wheelchair accessible.
Stealth is required to recover and replace the cache.
Happy New Year 2009! I hope
you enjoy searching for 'Kendal Market
Place' cache.
