The start point at the above co-ordinates is the Auchengeich Colliery Disasters Memorial.
A new memorial was unveiled last year (2009) to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1959 Auchengeich mining disaster and the previous tragedy at the Colliery in 1931. The new memorial featured a bronze statue of a miner as its centrepiece. Very unfortunately, the statue of the miner was stolen about three weeks later and all that remained were the holding down bolts. Read about the memorial and the theft in local news reports. http://www.healeyhero.co.uk/rescue/pits/auchengeich/Auchengeich7.htm#top June 2010 - Statue replaced and now with CCTV protection.

There used to be a good view of the mine from here. However, no sign of the mine remains and there is currently a poor view of the site which is occupied by a cement works.
The road the memorial is situated on is busy at times.
Parking is available at the entrance to an industrial estate (N 55° 54.763 W 004° 05.888).
