Part of the trail in this series runs near the gas line, and part
of it runs along the "Blue Dot" trial, hence the name "Blue Gas".
The loop is about 2.1 miles long, and has some significant
elevation changes (at least for this area). If you only hike the
loop, it would take about 40- 50 minutes. Add on the appropriate
time for finding/logging the caches. All of the cache's in this
series should not require more than 40 to 50 feet of bushwacking,
and most will be much closer to a trail than that. There are a few
areas on this trail that can cause some GPSr bounce, so
re-set/adjust as needed.
The first part of the trail is on a grassy path, and the rest is
in the woods. Usually the trail is dry and well traversed. But,
during the wet seasons the low lying spots can have some mud
puddles that you'll have to get through. This trail will get your
heart pumping, and can be a challenge on the ankles (lot's of rocks
and roots), so be warned.
I recommend you start at the "Blue Gas - Start", and end at the
"Blue Gas - End" trailheads. In other words, complete the loop in a
counter-clockwise direction. I have found it to be an easier hike
that way.
There is no parking area, but you should be able to park on the
street. I suggest you park at "Blue Gas - End", and walk over to
the beginning trailhead. The street is straighter at the ending
trailhead, so that would be a safer place to park.
There are two pictures attached to this listing. The first has a
picture of the recommended trail (loop). The second one shows the
elevation changes for the trail.
Most of the caches along the loop (but not all of them) contain
a code to help you solve the below formula for the actual
coordinates of this cache. Make sure you bring a pen and paper to
document the codes along the way.
