Geocache Description:

In this area is where I proposed to my wife. We thought it would be fun to put a cache near the site in memory of that. This is a nice bike path and figured why not have another cache here too, along with the other caches nearby. The cache is probably about 100ft off the main path.

A little history on "The Proposal." Back in July 2000, I planned on taking my 'girlfriend' for a walk on our favorite Rockford bike path. I hid the ring in my pants, with the box. She wanted to give me hugs that evening but I would always give her the 'half side hug'. aha. so we were walking and walking and walking waiting for the best spot. Finally, we stopped at a park bench and I read her a poem I wrote, then I got down on one knee and proposed. I thought I remembered (but my wife says no), that there was a biker nearby that stopped to see us while I was reading the poem. My wife says I should put the poem on here that I wrote, but I thought, nah. The park bench is the one with the light post next to it (in memory of Pflipsen), near the cache. Its too bad now that the bench continues to get 'markings' on it.

She claims that she knew the whole time during the walk that I was going to propose. I guess it was the nice dressed clothes I was wearing with cologne and the half hugs that gave it away. Regardless, after the rough day she had, she was very happy and so was I, cuz I was so nervous.

This is our first cache to hide, we hope you enjoy it. We hope the coords are okay! Please hide as you found it.

***update July 2016***

Even though I now live 60 miles away, I still wanted to keep this one alive. The few caches I placed at the original hide spot keep disappearing. I was in town so I decided to move the hide.

This new hide should be a little easier to get to and is in more of an open area. It is just off of a small path which runs perpendicular to the main bike path near the bench. This is a small container with a fresh log book. Please put back as found.

Hope you continue to enjoy this one, and thanks for the 188 finds so far. Hard to believe this cache has been active for 9 years!

Thank you and happy caching.
