Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache. If the owner would like to have the cache unarchived, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Located near the Corps of Engineers Chena River Diversion Dam.

This cache is located in the vicinity of the Chena Lakes Flood Control Project, more specifically, near the Moose Creek Dam which crosses the Chena River – hence the name for this cache.

The Dam information can be found at this site: (visit link) . That is also where one can go to find the dam flood stage and the dam watch information the wildlife in the dam area (see slide 1 of 29 in the virtual dam tour) and of course all the other dam information that you may want to know, along with watching the spectacular Salmon pass upstream the dam area (see slide 8 of 29 in the virtual dam tour found at the link noted above). I encourage all geocachers to check the flood predictions or actual flood stages before going to visit this cache in the spring (during break-up) or in the summer when our thunderstorms can drop a large amount of water in a short period of time.

Depending upon the time of year, one can gain access to this cache by Hiking, Snowmachine, Dog Sled, Horseback, Mountain bike canoe or even motorized hang-glider!

Original contents of Cache include the following:

Geocache Log book with pen and pencil, Alaska Yo-yo, Alaska Hackey Sack, Pen light flash light, Mario Racer, Green Bendable Frog, Retractable key chain, Key Ring from the December 2, 2002 swearing in of Gov. Murkowski, Pink Alaska snaplink and two travel bugs, Alaska Ursa Major and the Really Big Coast Guard Pin.

Note: The offered maps for this area are out of date and do not show the dam on this river. Also the river was re-aligned by the Corps of Engineers, also a change not shown on the maps.
