Geocache Description:

A small lock-and-lock off a level trail/road in Nichols Preserve.

We discovered this curious preserve not far from where Mac works. It is sandwiched between a nearby housing development and I-684 and contains open fields, pine thickets, stands of maple, marshes and small ponds -- all in a rather modest preserve. The preserve was originally managed by the Nature Conservancy but has since been turned over to the Greenwich Riding Trails Association. The preserve and its trails are clearly used for horseback riding, but the preserve is also open to the public for hiking. We took a liking to this rather quirky preserve and decided to place a series of caches whose variety in placement and form mirror the varied topography of the preserve itself. The trails have no clear labeling or names, but you will likely not find it difficult to follow a loop that will take you near all three caches. We suggest the order: Boulder-dash, Culicidae, Ave Caesar which will take you on a clockwise loop through part of the preserve.

This cache is a small lock-and-lock hidden near, but not in, a red maple swamp in Nichols Preserve. The area near GZ can be muddy though under even the incredibly wet conditions we had this (2009) summer there was no standing water. However, you should check out the cache name ahead of time and be prepared.
