Geocache Description:

Golden Pipeline (Bodallin)

The Goldfields Water Supply Scheme was completed in 1903 and travels 600km from Mundaring Weir to Kalgoorlie. It took 5 years to complete and provides a fresh water supply to households, businesses, industry from Perth Hills to Kalgoorlie.

It takes 5–11 days for a single drop of water to get from Mundaring Weir to the end of the pipe and if it were full it would hold approximately 300 million litres.

Referred to as the Golden Pipeline, Yilgarn is the last Wheatbelt Shire it passes through on its way to the Goldfields. Bodallin is almost hallway between Merredin and Southern Cross and the water passing through here has gone through twelve pumping stations before reaching the next one, Southern Cross. In the sparsely populated area from Southern Cross to Kalgoorlie the railway service and the pipeline were closely linked.
