MGriz: It was great meeting with you all. I found the AWOL hotdogs in my fridge: sorry if you were expecting them. Thanks for coming. This should still be available to log for a while.

Geocache Description:

Come join us for food, fun and great scenery 11-5 Saturday. I will make my grill available for hotdogs or burgers and an early afternoon potluck. I plan to be camping here from Friday to Tuesday (15 to 19 June) and would welcome others to join me on the same site or nearby.  Bonus pancake breakfast for those staying oner: please bring toppings or sides. Please contact me for more info. There are several caches in the area, and I do not plan to add more.

You will need to have a boat, or make arrangements with someone who has one to get to this event (and don't forget life jackets). . The site is about 1 mile from the launch area at the south end of the lake.

I am calling this a "microluau" mostly as a way of describing a small party on an island. While there will be a semi-Hawai'i theme to the event, please do not feel that you must be limited to that theme (in attire or food).

There is "dispersed" camping available here, and you are welcome to join me in sharing a site or claiming one nearby. This is a primative area requiring that everything needed (including drinking water) be brought in, and removed when leaving. Also, a campfire permit (available at Calaveras Ranger Station in Hathaway Pines or other ranger stations) is required to operate a camp stove.  I have portable toilet facilities, but if you will be camping, it wouldn't hurt to bring your own (they can be purchased where you buy your camping suplies).

Kayak rentals are available in the area: contact me at Madamsgriz@aol.com for more info, or check the yellow pages for rentals in your area.

There is hand launching for small boats. Motors are allowed on Union Reservoir with a 5MPH speed limit.

Suggestions to bring along for the day trip: Food to share, your preferred beverages, sun screen, insect reppellant, folding chairs (or expect that you might sit on the ground), floating transport. At this altitude, expect that it could be either hot or cold, and dress appropriately. Contact me for suggestions on reccommended multi-day supplies.

This event may be cancelled due to weather or road conditions.  The road was closed last year due to storm damage, but that is the only time I had to cancel.

No guarantees, but I am open to suggestions. More details will be posted as they become available.
