Josh's Electrical Sources: Electromagneti Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Stan&Ruth: We are sorry to report that the first stage has been destroyed and the final stage is missing. It had a good run but too much work to rebuild it.

Geocache Description:

Josh's Electrical Sources: Electromagnetic cache is a two stage mystery cache with a field puzzle at the first stage. The first stage is at the posted coordinates. Some prior preparation is required before leaving home to find this cache. Both stages are regular size. This Geocache is the first in a series of Josh's caches featuring the basic sources of electricity.

Generation of electric energy in all cases involves using energy of some other form to act upon the charges in atoms (Protons and Electrons) to separate them in such a way that the negative electrons try to get back to the positive protons and in doing so create an electric current that can be employed for useful purposes. Creating this charge separation requires an input of energy in some form.

In the Electromagnetic type source….referred to as Electromagnetic Induction, a relative motion between a magnetic field and a coil of wire will separate some of the electrons from the protons creating a difference in potential. One end of the coil of wire will become positive and the other end negative. Given the appropriate conditions a flow of electrons from the negative back to the positive creats a current which can result in giving up energy in some other form such as heat or light, etc.

EM INDUCTION

To obtain the coordinates for the final stage of this cache you will need to bring a magnet to the first stage. For information about the magnet Click Here. Open the cover of the first stage and push the start button. You should hear a beep. About nine seconds later you should hear two beeps. This indicates that the system is operational. Next push the north end of your magnet into the right end of the coil. Push the start button again. Wait about a second after the first beep, then pull the magnet quickly out of the coil to to the right. You should have generated an electrical pulse which should have triggered the circuit to give you information about the coordinates of the final stage. If you are not generating electricity the system will time out making two beeps.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We made a mistake by placing the final stage too close to the trail. When the foliage on the shrubs left in the fall the cache location was apparently exposed and the cache was discovered by a non-Geocacher (we assume) and was stolen. We have established a new location for its replacement. After determining the final stage old coordinates by doing the field puzzle at stage one you can figure out the location of the new final stage by one of two methods:
-Make a projection from the old final stage coordinates 28.5 feet @ 76 degrees.
or
-Add .001 minutes to the old latitude and subtract .006 minutes from the old longitude.
