Check out historic Gilman Ranch.
Preserves and interprets the history of California from the Cahuilla Indians to the settlement of Southern California, the San Gorgonio Pass, and homestead ranch of James Marshall Gilman. A Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District.
This became a stagecoach stop for the Colorado Stage and Express Line, which in 1862 carried people to work the gold mines along the Colorado River. The route was through Banning, Cabazon and Whitewater, and the last stop before Palm Springs. In 1876, the railroad replaced the stagecoach.
