Geocache Description:

Friendship Farm Park is located on Friendship Landing Road, just off Route 425 in Nanjemoy. The initial contents of the cache are Arts and Crafts related. Please feel welcome to make any type of trade; we are not limiting trades to only this theme.

This cache is a two stage, multi-stage cache. Both stages are located in a newly developed Charles County Park. Although this is a new park to the County, the land is filled with rich Southern Maryland history.

"The Nanjemoy Nature Reserve" property, was originally part of a patent tract first known as "Guither" and later as "Friendship," is traditionally believed to be the site of the home of Col. William Dent, a prosperous merchant-planter, attorney and legislator who died in 1704.

A small, two room, timber framed dwelling that formerly stood on this land (you can see this site near the parking area), widely thought to have been Dent's home, was acquired by the Historical Society of Charles County. In 1968, the home was disassembled and in 1976 reconstructed on the campus of the College of Southern Maryland near La Plata. The house is owned by the College and maintained as a museum by the historical society under a long-term lease arrangement. An eighteenth century granary was also removed from the site in 1968 and has since been reconstructed on privately owned property near Port Tobacco.

At the time the house and granary were acquired, an attempt was made to research the history of the property on which these buildings formerly stood. This endeavor resulted in the collection of some documentary materials but the research was not completed and the record remained fragmentary and confused. On the basis of the research and local tradition the house has been interpreted as Col. Dent's 1690 dwelling.

Along with the interesting history this park contains many nature trails, informational signage, a canoe in camp site and during the summertime a butterfly garden/habitat. This park is open dawn to dusk, and currently hunting is not allowed on the property.
