Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT hidden at the starting coordinates.

This is a letterbox hybrid cache. Letterboxing is another hobby in which people follow clues or a story (rather than just coordinates) to find a container and then put their personal stamp in the logbook and then stamp their own journal with the stamp from the cache.

A letterbox hybrid, like this one, is both a geocache and a letterbox. It can include both coordinates and clues to get you to the final location. Follow the instructions in the following paragraphs to be directed to the actual cache location. Contents include a stamp (do not take) for letterboxing, as well as a log book & swag for geocachers and letterboxers.

This cache will take you on an adventure about 500 feet into the wetlands of the east side of Sandy Knoll Park on one of its many scenic nature trails. It is one of the park's many great features! To get there you'll need to park on the west side of the park and walk along the path about 1/4 mile to get to the "starting point."

Your Adventure Awaits

There are at least five parking lots at Sandy Knoll - it's a big park at 267 acres - and since there are many geocaches in the park you could start at any of the lots. But the closest lot for this geocache would be the "North" lot at N43 27.220 W88 07.988, or if that parking lot is full the next closest lot is the "Beach" parking lot at N43 27.107 W88 08.058 (see attached color coded trail map).

From the parking lot take the green trail to get to the actual starting coordinates shown on this cache page. You can get on the green trail (see attached trail map, highly recommended) at the trailhead located at N43 27.173 W88 07.967.

Your "starting point" for this adventure will be at N43 27.154 W88 07.684, which are the coordinates listed on the cache page (about .24 mi from the trailhead). Having most likely walked past the pines and the prairie on a path to get here, you're now ready for a fabulous trek into the wetlands while on the green trail. But this isn't just any trail, you'll only walk on the grassy path about 155 feet east from the listed starting spot before you discover a nifty boardwalk (with a few slats missing) into the woods. The ancient boardwalk of Dagobah!

As you stroll along the boardwalk east and then south you'll notice that the swampy area supports a combination of hardwoods and cedars. Life abounds in the swamp and the forest. The force is strong here. At times the sounds are incredible. This hiking trail as well as the others in this park provide a variety of experiences throughout the seasons with spring ephemerals early in the year, shady paths in summer and fall color in autumn.

Take the boardwalk as far as it goes and then stop. It only goes about 300 feet from the starting point before the boardwalk ends and turns back into a grassy path. So if you leave the boardwalk you've gone too far. Back up 30 slats from that south end of the boardwalk, going north, and you should see slightly elevated ground to the east of the boardwalk. Go east on that higher ground about 30 feet, off the boardwalk, look for the geobeacon, and find Yoda you will!

Be careful on the boardwalk - some of the boards are loose or damaged.
