Private Herbert Groom served in the Royal Berkshire regiment. He fought in the Battle of the Somme and died of his wounds on the 21st October 1916. He was 28.

Hatfield Broad Oak was once one of the largest trading and market towns in the country. It is now a beautiful village with a thriving community.
The public house nearest the church dates back to the 15th century and the present church is early medieval in parts with the stone tower housing 8 bells. A Saxon church was present in the village at the time of the Domesday book.

Each May Bank Holiday the village plays host to a 10k road race. This popular race starts and finishes within the village, with the route taking runners along surrounding country lanes. The roads are closed to traffic during this time.
It is an enjoyable day out, but best avoided unless you like caching in a crowd!

Hatfield broad Oak church is well attended and quite overlooked by residents, so please be respectful when arriving and leaving the area.

Enjoy the view from the cache site whatever the weather!

Remember - the cache is easily accessible and on public land. If you find yourself looking in a field, you are in the wrong place!

If anybody would like to expand this series, please do, just let Sadexploration know, so he can keep track of the church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
