Geocache Description:

Nothing better than a night of movies with good friends! Come on! You bring the popcorn, I have the flicks! Growing up in the 80's and 90's there was nothing better than Friday nights at the video store and grabbing a couple movies for the weekend. I'm going to take you on a short tour of some of my absolute favorite movie franchises. Thank you to jcsugar for the idea. Please make sure to check out her cache: The Tin Man (GC5N48Q)

There can be only one! Well, actually this is the eighth in this movie series... But then again there were five Highlander installments counting both film and TV series. (Soon to be six with the new film) Sooooo.... Moving on!

You know, I honestly cannot remember the first time I saw this movie. I know I had seen at least parts of it early on, but I guess I never really sat down and really watched/studied it until I was in college. I was much more aware of the Highlander TV series since it played on USA about the time I got out of school from the time I was in junior high until well into my freshman year at UAFS. It has long been a favorite franchise of mine, and I own everything but the Raven Series in my collection. (Hey, no one's perfect)

I'm not saying the franchise as a whole doesn't have it's flaws. Far from it. As a matter of fact, I think that if not for the series' hard work in patching up the mythos (pun intended :) ) of the whole thing, it would have fallen into obscurity long before most of the sequels could come to be. In fact the TV series was much better developed, and the later movies with Duncan were much better story wise, but I digress.

This movie is still a favorite of mine. Heck, I named my first son Connor because of it. The point is, a movie doesn't have to be good to be great. If it is fun and has a fresh idea, relatable and distinct characters, it will be a memorable one. This movie is exactly that. It was made to be a simple, stand alone flick. Most of the action and the characters speak for themselves, even without having reams of dialogue. The unanswered questions only deepen the story because it lets us in on the mystery as it is realized by the protagonist. It didn't need big effects (The final scenes not withstanding) to make it visually interesting. It was human but managed to tell a story that was so much more.

But enough of that, right? On to the puzzle!

a. One of the first quotes is definitely one of my favorites. It is Connor introducing himself. He gives you the year of his birth. Take the second half of that year minus the first half.

b. The immortals are waiting for a particular time with a particular name. Everything hinges upon this time each time it comes about. Find that name and count the letters in it.

c. Kurgan had another great line towards the end of the movie that always stuck out i my mind. Given the context and the time he said it was downright blasphemous, but it was just made all the more memorable because of it. The line was, " I have something to say! It's better to burn out than to ___________?" What was the last part of what he said? Add the all the letters and subtract three.

d. Connor has a touching scene where he is paying respects in a church. He prays for his long lost love Heather and his good ol teacher Ramirez. Now Connor has an interesting nickname for his old mentor and it comes up a few times. Here he uses it again. What is this food item that he calls Ramirez? Add the letters and then divide them by two.

e. There is one place where an immortal is supposed to be safe from other immortals. It is one of their most sacred rules. Add the total letters in the name/term for this place and then add ten more.

f. When one immortal takes the head of another, the take that immortals power as their own. The name for this is the what? Interesting trivia bit here, this is also the name for the first time a baby shows signs of life by moving. You know the drill, add the letters of the word for this answer. Once you have that, divide it by five.

g. Ramirez tells Connor early on that he is from Spain; however, we learn later on during their conversation in the boat that he is much more ancient than that, and comes from much further away. I always thought it was an interesting little exchange that shows how the immortals, especially the older ones, a layered in secrets. Anyway, getting to the point, he says that he is not Spanish, but in fact a what? Add the letters of his nationality and divide it by 4.

h. Just after Christopher Lambert was signed on to play Connor MacLeod, the production team was shocked to learn that he was not only severely near sighted to the point of near blindness without glasses, but that he... 1=didn't speak english 2=was partially crippled 3=had just come off recovery from a hernia surgery and would not be able to perform any stunts.

i. This one, admittedly, might be a bit hard to find. Did you know that the title was not originally Highlander? Find the original title, add the letters to both words. Then subtract nine from that total.

Please feel free to email me if you have trouble. I'll work with you on the answers to let you know where you have gone astray if you cannot find GZ. Also, please use this handy certitude tool to check if you are correct before you venture out. It will let you know if you are within 10 feet of the correct location. :)

Also, just for fun, Why not tell me in your log when you first saw this movie and what you rate it? Scale 1-10; 10 being the best score. (Optional of course)

Hope you enjoyed the flick!

Happy Caching!
