Geocache Description:

Z ureditvijo in čiščenjem tega območja, sta sedaj obe vrsti samovzdržni. Ti dve rastlini sta obmorski lan (linum maritimum) in klasasta tavžentroža (centaurium spicatum), obe nas spomladi razveselita s pisanim cvetenjem.

Despite having such short coastline, we can still find a spot or two, that only a few know off. One of such is also this Mediterranean saltmeadow , which offers a view into rare, protected and dying plant life.

A few years ago, this area was arranged into a lovely woodden path and included into the network Natura 2000, due to it's ecosystem and biological diversity. This is acctually the only saltmeadow in Slovenia and a very rare example of a seashore that is not steep, cliffy, rocky or sandy. It is sludgy, damp and very shallow, which makes a water regime very different from all other.

Consequently, we can observe very interesting and unique plant life. The first plant that can be seen the moment we leave the forrest line, is the sea rush (juncus maritimus), which needs the exact conditions that can be found here: salty and dry. But this rush is not the only halophytic plant on this meadow. One can also find two plants that seemed to be extinct untill recently, and are now on the red list of endangered seed plants and ferns of Slovenia. With cleaning and regulating this area, both of them are now self sufficient. The plants are: coastal flax (linum maritimum) and spike centaury (centaurium spicatum), both of which are seen blooming in the spring.

Again, we have chosen an important and unique part of our coastline and of our planet, to place this geocache. We must all strive to preserve such beauties, therefore, we would like to ask you, to keep on the wooden paths. For those that would like to chill in the sea, please clean after yourselves and keep our sea clean. To get to the treasure, you should STAY ON THE WOODEN PATH and descend only to your KNEES
