What is an earthcache? Often it is a geocache with a view and always placed at a unique geological location. It is a virtual geocache that requires a cacher to perform a task or make some observations and teaches them about the earth science or geology of the area. To qualify for an earthcache find, the cacher needs to answer some questions from the cache page and send them to the cache owner . They are usually located in areas that physical caches are not allowed, such as a National Park, and provide a great way to make a find while learning about the location. Earthcaches are one of my favourite cache types so I always seek them out when I go caching.
You are required to fulfill the challenge requirements before logging a find. If you sign the log before you qualify, you can write a note and log the find when you do qualify. The difficulty rating reflects the challenge and the terrain rating reflects the access to the cache.
