LAV-100:
The LAV project was undertaken in 2017 by the Marathon Branch No. “DDD”, Royal Canadian Legion, to acquire a LAV that was used during the Afghanistan Campaign from 2001 to 2014. This project was undertaken to honour the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who served and died in Afghanistan. Marathon has several members of the Canadian Armed Forces that served in Afghanistan.
The LAV-100 (100th LAV purchased and placed as a commemorative) was placed during the summer of 2017 after a very successful financial campaign undertaken in Marathon. The LAV was dedicated during the 2017 Remembrance Day Ceremonies on November 11, 2017. Nine current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces from Marathon, along with several of Marathon Veterans and the public, were able to attend the dedication. The following plaque was unveiled during the dedication.
