Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro pill bottle in the Carnegie Cemetery.

At the beginning of this particular episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Doctor Beverly Crusher welcomes an old friend of hers onto the Enterprise-D. As she walks him to his quarters, they talk about the death of his wife (after a lifetime together) and the death of her husband (that happened only a few years after they were married). She then goes to engineering to see her son Wesley, who is busy with a new warp field design... Okay, so Doctor Crusher gets caught up in the warp field and doesn't realize it till near the end of the episode. However, during the episode people start to disappear, and Doctor Crusher is the only person on board who remembers all the people who are disappearing. Eventually she realizes what is going on and manages to escape the warp field safely (with the help of her son as he works on the field from engineering).

As I grew up in the Carnegie area I had the unique opportunity to live close to my grandparents. My brother and I would walk the 1/4th mile from our house to visit with our grandparents, across the field where our family would always have a garden. I would spend time watching television and visiting with them, and Grandpa would play checkers with me. Grandma made the best chicken fried steak, home made hot rolls, and her chocolate pudding pie always made for a delicious dessert. I learned a lot about life by spending time with my grandparents.

Scrudgirl was a baby when Grandpa passed away, quite suddenly. A dozen plus years later Grandma had a stroke, and was in nursing care for the last year of her life. This cache is located in the same cemetery that they are buried in; I wanted to place it here to remember them by. As I walked through the cemetery I not only saw grave sites of others that I remember from growing up here in Carnegie, but I also saw grave sites of the relatives of several of the people I grew up with. This cache is here to help all of us remember those people that have made a difference, that have had an impact in our lives. As you log your find, please mention someone in your life that has passed on, that made an impact on your life, that helped make you who you are.

You are looking for a micro pill bottle that is covered in camo tape. It's too small for a pencil, log book only, so BYOP. It is attached to its hiding place with a "common farmer's impliment", so please pay close attention to how it is attached, and replace it exactly as you found it. Afterwards, take some time to look around at all the local history that is revealed by the tombstones.

On a personnal note, my grandparents grave site is at N 35° 05.303 W 098° 35.603, and My great-grandparents are nearby, at N 35° 05.282 W 098° 35.599. You wouldn't know it by my nickname, but my given first name is the same as Grandpa's.

At the beginning of the episode in the hallway conversation, Doctor Crusher's friend tells her, "You know what the worst part of growing old is? So many of the people you've known all your life are gone, and you realize you didn't take the time to appreciate them while you still could." Remember to appreciate all those people that mean something to you, and remember to let them know just how much you care for them.

Set your best warp speed, and engage.
