Geocache Description:

A large boulder of Shap Granite

The Thunderstone, one of many in the area, is located on a public footpath about 30 yards from a minor road.

This stone was dumped many thousands of years ago by a passing glacier and is composed of granite as opposed to the underlying limestone.

Shap itself is very interesting as it lays on the main A6 Trunk Road, which was the route connecting England and Scotland until the M6 was built.
