Niles Depot Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WalruZ: Stopped by today to take a look. The station is up on supports and is out next to it's foundation. Soon they will be moving it up Mission to Nursery Ave, across the tracks and down Niles Blvd to it's new home in the middle of the shopping district - not far from where it stood historically. That's still quite aways from where this cache was hidden, so I'm going to bid this one a fond farewell. You were a good cache. I'll miss you.

Geocache Description:

Wooo! Wooo!

(click on image to view the Niles Depot website)

Niles is at the West end of Niles canyon, the only easy grade between the San Ramon/Livermore valleys and San Francisco Bay. The Niles depot was a particularly active one and there is lots of railroad history to see here.

The cache is hidden out in front of the old depot building. While the museum and model railroads inside have been cleared out in preparation for relocation of the building, you can still get a feeling for the depot by walking along the platform. Perhaps if you're lucky a real train will come by on the tracks behind you.
