“Between the green of the mountain and the blue of the sky” that’s how this place is defined. Known as the Sintra of Algarve, Caldas de Monchique invites you to a pleasant walk in the middle of the trees, and the murmuring waters that sprout almost everywere.
Initially constructed by the Romans, height where its waters had been called "Sacred Waters", it passed later to the hands of the Bishops of the Algarve, having belonged to the Church up to 1833. During this period some infrastructures had been constructed namely some rooms and an infirmary (called Hospital). To relate the visit of King D.João II in 1495. From 1833 it passed to the hand of the civil government and in 1895 the first private concession of Caldas was granted, having been excluded the hospital that belonged to City council of Monchique. In 1921 Caldas had reverted for the Portuguese state, passing in 1975 for the public company Enatur. In 1993 all the patrimony was acquired by the Fundação Oriente, being who explores today the spas and the water bottling. During all these periods many workmanships have been made, however only in 2001 everything was finished and initiate its functioning in full, and as it is nowadays. This also is called one of the Fontes Santas of Monchique and the only that is used to advantage commercially. The others are from
Fornalha and from
Malhada Quente .
The water that became well-know the unique spas of the Algarve, is rich in bicarbonate, sodium, fluorine and silica. Its characteristics, beyond relaxing, are especially indicated for the treatment of diseases of the respiratory ways, of the digestive device and rheumatic and muscle related.
The cache is a
multi-cache in 4 stages and takes you to walk through some places of Caldas de Monchique. It’s a route to be done by foot, leaving your car here N37 16.930 W8 33.255 and follow from there. Attention that you could take more than one hour doing this cache.
In the first coordinate there is a
micro-cache different from the normal. To find it you don’t need to leave the track however you couldn’t have a good signal reception that could difficult things. After that you have more two usual micro-caches. Please be discrete therefore sometimes are too many eyes near the places.
