Geocache Description:

There is a car park on the headland. An intersting location with excellent views.

Part of the Cornish Lighthouse series (see info at the Eddystone Lighthouse cache page.) A part co ordinate is here and is required to enable you to get to the final lighthouse. Each cache can be claimed as and when completed. St Anthony's Head Lighthouse originally built in 1835 stands on the eastern approach to Falmouth Harbour and warns of the dangers of the Manacles rocks. Before the lighthouse was built the Killigrew family flew a large red flag from an Elm tree to show wind direction but taken down in 1779 to avoid its use by invading fleets. The present lighthouse was built by Olver of Falmouth and the light first shone in 1835 The light not only warns about the Manacles but also Black Rock in the centre of the channel Mains were connected in 1954 and is now fully automated.
