The name for this cache comes from an entry someone left in one of my other caches. Not sure what it says, but I kinda liked it and decided to use it here.
I have driven along Guelph Line and by this parcel of land many, many times, and often wondered what was in here. After getting the go ahead for the cache placement, I was impressed by the beauty of the area.
Please stick to the trails and respect the natural environment. (Trail Map Provided)
Permission has been given for the placement of this cache by the HRCA.
Parking
No Parking at Colling Tract, or along Guelph Line.
In order to access the Colling Tract, parking will be a challenge. You cannot park at the entrance to this property, nor should you be parking along Guelph Line as it is considered unsafe given the narrow shoulders and the volume and speed of traffic through the area.
The closest parking is at Mt. Nemo Conservation Area, (Waypoint Provided), however there is an admission fee for parking there.
Good luck, and Happy Caching!
Brief History of the Area:
In discussion with the HRCA, they were unable to provide a significant history of the area, and their acquisition of the land. However, I did learn the following:
The HRCA purchased 84.94 acres in November 1998. There was a severance of the Colling Farm and HRCA purchased the northern acres, while the rest was retained by the owners.
The Colling Property surrounds a small ancient cemetery owned by the City of Burlington. " A bit of googling provided the following info on the Colling family and the cemetery that the property surrounds: http://www.haltonpeel.ogs.on.ca/h/ne19.htm
