Geocache Description:

ATTEMPT THIS CACHE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Hambleton Island, at the confluence of Broad, Edge, and San Domingo Creeks in Talbot County, is only accessible by boat. The nearest public launch point for canoes and kayaks is at the end of West Chew Avenue in St. Michaels.

There is, in fact, an established three-mile water trail that runs from that launch point around Hambleton Island and back. Depending on tide and wind, It's a three-hour tour...

Click here for a downloadable brochure detailing The St. Michaels Water Trails.

IF PADDLING, please exercise good common sense with regards to your physical condition and the current weather forecast.

If power or sail boating is more your style, the nearest public boat landing is located in Neavitt. There is plenty of deep water anchorage nearby, and the island can then be accessed by dinghy or launch. Consult the latest navigational charts and tide tables before setting out.

For more information about Hambleton Island itself, visit the listing for our nearby Earthcache.

This is a short, but challenging hike through fairly dense woods. Your signal lock will be less than solid, greatly increasing the difficulty of this cache.
You're searching for a camo'd five-gallon bucket filled with a wide assortment of random items; some useful, most just silly. Please trade equally or up to ensure the cache remains worth the trip.
As this is a big-a** cache, inside you'll find a big-a** logbook, and a big-a** pencil. Take as much space to write about your experience on the Island as you like, and please leave both items in the cache.
Muggles do indeed frequent the area, so please rehide the cache as found, and use stealth where necessary.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A HIKE TO THE INTERIOR OF ANY OF THESE ISLANDS BE ATTEMPTED WITHOUT A LIBERAL APPLICATION OF INSECT REPELLANT CONTAINING AT LEAST 40% DEET. TICKS AND CHIGGERS ABOUND IN THESE WOODS! TAKE EVERY POSSIBLE PRECAUTION!
DO NOT TAKE THIS WARNING LIGHTLY!!!

PLEASE follow the tenets of Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics.

Do us a favor and take an extra second to be sure the lid is on tightly before rehiding.
A minute of extra care could save us hours of maintainence!

THANKS, AND HAVE FUN!

CONGRATS to pvdjr on his first FTF!

Now that it's been found, let's be careful to avoid creating a geo-trail to the hide. If you see evidence of someone passing that way before you, PLEASE take pains (no pun intended) to go another way. We'd like to keep Hambleton Island as pristine as possible while it's still here...
