Geocache Description:

Cache is located near Lake Aldrich, around the site of the former BoyScout camp, Camp Aldrich.

Camp Aldrich existed from 1944 until 1960. It was owned by the Holyoke Boy Scout Council, which changed its name to Mt Tom Council in 1949. They ran an annual summer camp program there and I expect that it was used throughout the year by local troops for their outdoor activities. The camp went silent in 1960 when Mt Tom Council merged with Hampden Council to become the Pioneer Valley Council, the current Boy Scout Council for this area. All camping activities were moved to the Horace A. Moses Scout Reservation in Russell at that time. Camp Aldrich was later sold - sometime in the late 60's.

If you have any more info about the camp, or even some pictures of it in its heydey, they would be much appreciated. Please also post any pictures you take of the ruins of the camp.

This cache will take you to some of the remains of Camp Aldrich, as well as many beautiful views of the lake. Please be careful for atvs and bicyclists, as they use these trails as well. The treecover is extremely dense in some places, and I had a lot of GPS bounce when taking the coords. If you think my coords are off, please email me with the set you got.

Please make sure you rehide the cache well, as it is not designed to be easy to find :-D

PLEASE!!! trade up, trade equal, or DON'T TRADE!
