When: 9-11am Jul 23,2016.
We are MMBuggers(Mr. and Mrs.) and have been coming to this area a long time but we are newly retired to Iron County in Upper Penninsula Michigan. This event will be a meet and greet and breakfast.
We will be meeting at the historic Porter School in Alpha, Mi. This school was built in 1913 with the first classes starting in 1914. It grew from a thriving mining community and as well as a place for childen's learning the school provided space for church services on Sunday, employed a physician for the school children, distributed clothing for the needy children, provided a library for the community and was the center for dances, elections, weddings and other community events. By 1925, a total of 421 students were enrolled at the Porter School. But In the 50's the mines were closing and the school was shut down in 1965 and the children sent into Stambaugh/Iron River for their schooling. Mr Buggers is proud to say he attended school in Alpha for a short period of time in 1962. The town of Alpha has tried to keep the school building operating and has a saturday marketplace with all kinds of gift shops and a summer farmer's market as well as an operating general store at the east end. On the west end The Old School Pizza and Cafe is open all week and will be preparing food for our breakfast.
We will be expecting to use the school gymnasium for our event and just want to say there will be plenty of room for all to come for a planned breakfast buffet. We will make sure and make introductions all the way around and make everybody feels as at home as we do here. After we play a game or two we will then say goodbye and hope many will choose to go out and get some new area caches.
