No, this cache has nothing to do with
dental hygene! It's a different kind of "plaque!"
The cache is located in McCambridge
Park in Burbank. McCambridge Park has, possibly, the largest
concentration of commemorative and memorial plaques of any park in
town. More than a dozen are spread around the park, honoring, for
example, the long-time city employee for whom the park is named;
Veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars and more. There's
even a plaque on the restrooms!
Your starting point for this cache are the
posted coordinates. However, this is not where you'll actually
begin your hunt. From the coordinates, you need to locate a nearby
plaque which gives you the year the recreation center was
dedicated. Be aware that there's more than one plaque in the
immediate vicinity. You have to locate the correct one. It's around
100 feet away.
Once you have the dedication date, add
the year to the last five numbers in both of the coordinates
below:
N 34 09.656
W118 17.327
(For example, if the date is 1892, add 1892
to 09656 to get a final lattitude coordinate of N34 11.548. Do the
same with the longitude - add 1892 to 17327 to get a final
longitude coordinate of W118 19.219.)
When you've done the math with the real
date, off you go. The cache is not far away. It's an APS film can -
slightly smaller than a 35mm film can - and has a green geocaching
sticker on it.
Be on the lookout for muggles! Don't let
them see you removing or replacing the cache!
Have
fun!
