I went out today with dog fish to hide a cache in a conservation area in Reading I had explored twice before. You won't see much muggle activity here but there are deer in the area.
The Area
The Xavier Conservation area in Reading is described as follows:
The Xavier property is located in the western part of town and there is a short trail through the property which leads from the road, along a small stream, and next to a large vernal pool. The entire area is wet, and is home to a variety of ferns and wetland plants. As you move further into the property, you will come across a marshy area of tall hummocks, which gives way to another swamp area and a river.
Do not worry, it is not as bad as it sounds. There are a lot of ferns and also some scattered poison ivy. The stream is just a muddy bed and can be crossed easily. The trail is more animal paths than a trail, but does get better the farther in you go. There is a lot of wild life activity including both deer and skunk so be aware.
The Cache
Parking is available on north side of West Street. Look for the silver gate near the powerlines and enter just to the left of the gate. Then proceed at a sharp angle and cross the dried stream. Then turn south and follow the narrow animal trail to the area of stage one. I will warn you you may lose the trail a couple times on your walk, just keep going south. Stage one contains the coords for the final.
After stage one continue south and you will enter a highland area. This is where I saw several deer on one of my trips. You will have to zig-zag a bit as you go through there and look for the trail again heading south. From there follow you GPS to the final. Please be careful put the cache back in the wedge so it stays high and dry even in the rainy season.
