Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the vicinity of the Snowdon Ranger Youth Hostel. There is a public car park for the Snowdon Ranger path nearby. (Please don’t park in the area across the road from the Hostel.) The cache is accessible to wheelchair users.

The cache is close to the Snowdon Ranger Youth Hostel, which was originally The Saracens Head Inn before becoming the Snowdon Ranger Inn. It was opened by John Morton, who was the original “Snowdon Ranger” and used to act as escort to “gentlemen who put themselves under his guidance in order to ascend Snowdon and see the country”. The Inn was bought by the Youth Hostel Association in 1940. The Welsh Highland Railway has a request stop just behind the Hostel.

The Snowdon Ranger path is one of the oldest routes up Snowdon. It was created around 1795 as a sledge path for the transport of copper ore from nearby mines down to the road at Llyn Cwellyn. It can be used in conjunction with The Rhyd Ddu path as a circular route up and down Snowdon.

The cache has been placed to celebrate the 60th birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. GilliB around the time of a gathering of friends at the Youth Hostel.
