Long before Falls of Clyde was a Scottish Wildlife Trust nature reserve open to all, it was part of the Bonnington Estate. Except for the nearby Bonnington Pavillion, this grand old estate has gone, faded into the mists of time. Some trees remain however, as a testement to this oppulent, priveledged past where the landscape was designed for the pleasure of the estate owners and their guests, rather than the general public who it welcomes today.
Oak trees support more life forms than any other native tree species in the UK. It plays host to birds, bats, mammals, insects, butterflies and fungi. Stop a while under this beautiful oak to appreciate it's place in history, the present and the future.
