A nano-cache hidden on a main street in Warwick - stealth required!

Blackfriars House - mid 1980s

In the suburb on the west side of the town of Warwick, a house of Dominican or Black Friars was established towards the end of the reign of Henry III, but before the year 1263. Friars were like monks but instead of withdrawing from the world they went out to preach. Dominican friars were called black friars because of the colour of their costumes.

Thomas Norman, the prior, and seven friars, signed the surrender of their house and possessions to the king's use on 20 October, 1539. The prior and his brethren were ejected without any pensions. In 1551 the site was purchased off the crown by John, Duke of Northumberland. He held it long enough to completely demolish the church and buildings.

Now standing on the corner of West Street, Bowling Green Street and of course, Friars Street is Blackfriars House. An impressive house indeed, now enjoying a new lease of life. It has a sentimental attachment for me as it was here that I had my first full time job, between July 1983 and May 1984, before the company I worked for bought another property nearby and we went to a split site for a couple of years before Blackfriars House was sold on. My desk was in the downstairs, left hand office, at the back, by the french windows. We used to sit in the garden you can see through the gate in summer and have our lunches. Quite often we would be visited by peacocks which had somehow made their way across from the Castle grounds.

The cache is a nano cache hidden very close by. Bring your own pen/pencil and a pair of tweezers to extract the log might come in handy. As there is a 20 foot brick wall I had great difficulty getting an accurate GPS reading, but the clue should be sufficient.
