Sea 'n
Suds
No. 2 in the
Team Tigerz Webcam
Series
When you're strolling the beach between Gulf Shores and Gulf
State Park, this is a great place to grab a burger and/or something
cold to drink. To our knowledge, it's been around at least 20 years
and has been rebuilt at least once ... after Hurricane Ivan in
September of 2004. Ivan made landfall two to three miles west of
here.
Finding this cache is a coordinated effort between you and a
friend who will be needed to capture and save your image. Freeware
to capture your picture can be found here. They can also
do it the low-tech way by clicking on the camera icon in the lower
left corner. :)
The screen image automatically updates on a continuous basis.
The person at the computer will need to take control of the webcam
and zoom in you and your GPSr.
To log the cache:
1. Go to the coordinates listed above and face the camera.
2. Call your friend and have them go to http://www.bamabeachcams.com/LiveCams/gulfshores.htm.
3. When your friend sees you, hold your GPSr up in the air.
4. Have your friend capture the image of you holding your GPSr.
5. Save and crop the image using an application such as MS Photo
Editor, Photo Image Manager, Paint, or Word.
6. Log the find. You must upload the webcam photo to receive
credit. Logs without pictures will be deleted.
7. As you can see from the attached picture, the lighting is poor
at night and doesn't lend itself to nighttime webcaching. We want
to see you and your GPSr, so please provide a picture where we can
see both your face and your GPSr.
Please note the difficulty rating is because of the challenge
some people have in capturing and posting the picture. Otherwise,
this would have been a one difficulty. If all else fails, use the
software link provided and do it that way. If you can not post a
picture of you with your GPSr held up high, then log a DNF. Maybe
then, we'll have compassion and let you log it anyway! :)
Note
Depending on the type of PC software and the internet browser
you’re using, the webcam page may present as much of a challenge as
finding the cache. To support the advanced features found on this
particular webcam, the provider appears to be using adware. We use
a free product, Spybot Search and Destroy, to minimize problems
from ad and spyware. It also appears the java implementation at
this site may be incompatible with some installations of the
Mozilla FireFox browser. There have been no reported problems with
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Again, log a DNF with a picture of
your GPSr and the view of the beach and maybe we'll be in the mood
to let you have a smiley anyway! In fairness to everyone else who
got it to work, any logs without a picture will be deleted.
Enjoy!
