Geocache Description:

This will be a lovely afternoon to explore the park and enjoy the season.

This event will take place at 3:30pm until 4:30pm at Washington Park in Albany, NY (feel free to enjoy the park longer if you wish). We will be meeting on the seats for the Lakehouse Ampitheatre located in the southwestern corner of the park weather permitting. In case of rain, we will be meeting inside of the lakehouse instead of the seating near it. This will only be canceled in the case of severe weather.

This is a lovely opportunity to mingle with fellow geocachers to talk, explore, and trade trackables in a beautiful park. Feel free to hang out in the meeting area and/or split off to enjoy the park. Since it is fall and close to Halloween, it would be wonderful to see some costumes or spirits of the season in one way or another. It can be difficult to attend an event during the week though so it is understood if it is not possible and all are welcome no matter what.

Washington Park is a beautiful 81 acre historic park dating back to 1686. It has served many uses before park planning began in 1870 including a cemetery. The area surrounding the park is also a historic area being declared the Washington Park Historic District in 1972. The park itself was declared one of the nation's top 100 important parks by the American Association of Architects in 1998 as well as inspiring a 2008 song. There is a rich history one could go on for ages about.

Today, the park is host to many activities and events. Events include a summer play series, the annual Tulip Festival, and the annual holiday lights display. Activities include paths closed to car traffic, open areas to play games, tennis, basketball, and handball courts, playground, statues and monuments, stocked pond, and more. All of which would be great for a geocaching adventure.

I have to travel this way at least once a month so I would love to make this a reoccuring thing if all goes well. I would love to see you all there. : )
