Geocache Description:

There are two places in Davis that are known as Toad Hollow. To find this cache you go to one of these to determine the coordinates of the cache which is located nearby. You can see the other Toad Hollow from there. Back in the olden days, the final stage used to be near there.

(For the Munzee enthusiasts: note that there is a Munzee at stage 1).

There are two places in Davis that are known as Toad Hollow. To find this cache you go to one of these to determine the coordinates of the cache which is located nearby. The other Toad Hollow is on the other side of Pole Line Rd.

Davis has many things for which it is famous. This cache celebrates one of those things which many citizens would prefer that everybody just forget about it.

When the Pole Line Road overcrossing was built, the citizens of Davis were conflicted about many issues. Some of these were related to business ("Would it mess up the business of Davis’ most important brewery?"), public health ("Would the extra traffic on the overpass add air-pollution?"), traffic flow (“Should this become an I-80 exit?"), economic ("Who is going to pay the millions that it will cost”?), and environmental ("How many toads will get killed trying to cross Pole Line Road?"). At this cache you will have the opportunity to get answers to some of the above questions. It is the last one that requires a bit of explanation as the logic of the solution is a bit baffling.

The Davis City Council was presented with the problem that a huge population of toads inhabiting the storm drainage pond (known as "Toad Hollow") on the west side of Pole Line Rd was in the habit of crossing the road from there to the east side of Pole Line Rd. As there was no overpass at the time, the traffic on that section of Pole Line was very minimal. It was anticipated that the millions of cars that would soon be coming through there would cause major toad carnage. The solution: the Toad Tunnel. The tunnel connects the "Toad Hollow Drainage Pond" with the "Toad Hollow Miniature Community" (at the coordinates).

The coordinates posted for this site are in the middle of a place where the sign prominently indicates that it is "Toad Hollow"; take a good look and note the number of engraved amphibians on this sign. You can walk around in Toad Hollow but be very careful to not damage anything, and do not even try to enter the tunnel - that is only for amphibians. There has been some vandalism here and there are folks around who are keeping an eye on the site. Recently another sign was added to the main sign declaring that the toads are doing as most Davis residents. Additional amphibian abstraction seem to also be added by volunteers so their number can no longer be used as part of the calculations (since it varies over time).

You will need the following pieces of information to find the cache:
A = number of engraved toads on the sign.
B = number of solar panels on buildings, huts, etc, in Toad Hollow
C = (total actual wattage of all solar panels combined at full sunlight)*(number of toads whose lives where saved by the tunnel)
D = A+B
E = D+A
F = A*B
G = F+B

(Use common sense to calculate C)
