Garrettstown (or Balie Geharód as it is in Irish) can be translated as "The town of Garrett".
The woodland was formerly part of the Frank's Estate and covers an area of approximately 200 hectares. The northern section of the wood is on elevated ground, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. To the southern end, one can enjoy the views of the sandy beaches and surfers of Garrettstown and the Old Head of Kinsale beyond.
There are two waymarked forest walks that you can follow in the in the park one of which also has a spur off to Templetrine Church, records of which date back as early as 1302 and has a cemetery for both Catholics and Protestants.
More information about these walks including a map can be found on the information board found to the right you enter the park.
The cache is a small, lightly camouflaged screw lid pot. Please screw back tightly once you've signed the log.
