Geocache Description:

New location from10th Sept 2010 - on its own now and not part of the sandwich series

The White Mill was built in 1760 and still has most of its original wooden machinery. The mill was worked by wind until 1926 then by a 28 horsepower oil engine until 1957 when it closed.

The mill was repaired in the 1960s using a pair of sails from the demolished windmill at Wingham. In 1964 the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings gave a grant for the purchase of materials to repair the mill and it was finally acquired by Sandwich Borough Council in 1968, later being passed into the ownership of Kent County Council.

The White Mill is a three storey smock mill on a single storey brick base. It has four spring sails. The mill is winded by a fantail. The mill drove two pairs of millstones, with a third pair being driven by an engine. Much of the machinery is wood, including the Brake Wheel , Wallower, Great Spur Wheel and Stone Nuts. The millstones are overdrift.

The White Mill and its outbuildings, The Engine House and The Miller's Cottage, form a museum of rural heritage. There are exhibits of Farming and Craft tools, Kitchen & Laundry equipment, plus a complete Wheelwright's workshop and a Blacksmith's workshop complete with forge.

You are looking for a cylindrical tube 4in x 1in. This can be quite a busy muggle area but if you time it right then you will have fewer issues getting to the cache.

This is cache #2 of 5 sited around Sandwich. Collect all of the clues and see if you can find the bonus cache which is sited a couple of miles out of town
