Geocache Description:

The 21st of June at 10:34am is the date and time of the Winter Solstice this year for New Zealand. From this time the days will grow a bit longer every day and bring us nearer to summer, so let's celebrate with an Event Cache.

This event has been well attended in previous years and Mr and Mrs SAROC once again invite you to come along to entice the sun back to the Southern Hemisphere.

From Wikipedia:
"Winter solstice is an astronomical phenomenon which marks the shortest day and longest night of the year.
More evident from high latitudes, a hemisphere's winter solstice occurs on the shortest day and longest night of the year, when the sun's daily maximum elevation in the sky is at its lowest. The winter solstice itself lasts only a moment in time, so other terms are used for the day on which it occurs, such as "midwinter", or the "shortest day". It is often considered the "extreme of winter" (Dongzhi in the Chinese calendar).
The seasonal significance of the winter solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days. The earliest sunset and latest sunrise dates differ from winter solstice, however, and these depend on latitude, due to the variation in the solar day throughout the year caused by the Earth's elliptical orbit.
Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied across cultures, but many have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time."

When: Sunday, 19th June 2016. 12.00 midday through to 2.30pm.

Food/Drink Options:

Sunday Brunch menu which includes an All Day $10 Breakfast or select something off the normal menu. Kids menu also available. You are responsible for all your own food and drink charges. The upstairs bar, which is conveniently close, will take your meal orders. Copies of the menus are in the images section below.

This is an ideal opportunity to meet the people who have created some of those interesting and memorable caches in the Wellington region. We have noticed that there have been, over recent times, an increase in the people who have recently started caching and have been placing caches. Come along, bring the whole family or any friends to share the hospitality and friendly relaxed social atmosphere.

As always, new cachers are most welcome. Come and say hi, don't be shy as event gatherings are a terrific way to meet fellow geocachers. Do you have a question (or many!!) over a puzzling hide that has had you returning a number of times with out success so far or that tricky puzzle - you can always try your luck with the cache owner (CO) or recent finder.

Please post a "will attend" log if you plan to join us along with approximate numbers, so we can give the Restaurant an idea of how many people may turn up. We will be upstairs, you'll know where if you've been there before, if not, turn left just before the bar and come on up the stairs.
