Geocache Description:

Rutland State Park, fire road accessable.

This multi-cache takes you on a circuit through Rutland State Park. The total distance is almost 14 km (8 miles), so the recommended means of traversing the route is on mountain bike or by horseback. All of the waypoints are reached via the fire roads and you do not need to leave the road except for the final. The way is generally not difficult, but there are a few hills and rocky spots. No points will be deducted for walking your bike through the tough spots, but there is a penalty for carrying your horse.

Beware: this area is a popular hunting area. Even though you will be on the roads, better wear your “Blaze Orange”. Hunting is not allowed on Sundays, so this is the best day during the hunting season.

The best parking area is at N 42° 22.419, W 071° 59.665. You may be able to get closer to WP1 when the gates are open, but it won’t make the circuit any shorter. Start by taking the left fork of the road you came in on and continue on this road past the parking lot for the swimming and picnic area.

One more hint: at N 42° 22.499, W 072° 00.182 you’ll know you’re on the correct trail if you see a sign for the Mid-State Trail.

WP1: N 42° 23.433 W 072° 01.560 Here you will find the first dam clue.

WP2: N 42° xx.xxx W 072° xx.xxx This clue is dam simple, too!

WP3: N 42° yy.yyy W 072° yy.yyy Now things get dam bit tougher. At WP3, look for the two-digit number that isn’t there. Call this number “A”.

WP4: N 42° 24.(494-A) W 072° 01.(2*A+595) At WP4, slow down and search for a two-digit number. Call this number “B”. (Owner's Note: Due to damage at this WP, the original clue went missing. There is a temporary fix in place now. Look for a brown wooden sign post.)

WP5: N 42° 24.(6610/B) W 072° 01.((B*B*8)+2) At WP5, look for “Charlie Brown’s” number. Add the digits together and call this number “C”.

WP6: N 42° 24.((145*C)+2) W 072° 01.((160*C)-4) At WP6, look for another two-digit number, similar to WP5. Subtract the first digit from the second. This is “D”.

Final Cache: N 42° (3*D+2*C).((B*B*D)+(A-C-D)) W 072° (B-(2*C)). 0 [(6*B)+(2*D)]
You are looking for a 4 x 4 x 2 inch square plastic box. The final is located about 50 feet off the trail.
