Created by a local teen marine science club, we hope this cache helps to raise awareness of the threats that marine debris & trash pose to our oceans. Along the way, we encourage you to collect any trash you find & dispose of it properly in order to help the environment. By doing this, we can continue to geocache in pristine & beautiful places without the eyesore of pollution that threatens the organisms we love.
This cache is dedicated to the birds of the Sarasota bay area that rely on the ocean to survive. The largest threat to these birds, including pelicans and cormorants, is choking on small plastic pieces such as bottle caps as well as on fishing gear. You will notice that this cache is near a local wildlife rescue center as well as boat ramps where many fishermen launch their boats every day. This is also the location of a white PVC pipe recycling bin where any fishing line collected on your caching adventures can be recycled. You can do more than just picking up trash by beginning to use reusable water bottles on all of your warm geocaching adventures.
