"Would you run up to the hardware store and pick up some paint for me?" Cabdriver asked Puzzler. "Get something as close to PMS 165 as you can. And pick up some paint stirrers and a yardstick. After I paint the dining room, I'm going to measure for new carpet."
"Sure," said Puzzler, and off he went.
While on the way to the big-box hardware store, he noticed a new, smaller store had opened up a lot closer to home.
"Hey, I can run in here, then grab a cache or two and get back home before Cabdriver misses me!" he thought to himself.
The new store didn't have the exact paint Cabdriver wanted, but Puzzler thought it was close enough. As he left the store, a nice employee gave him a free yardstick which put a bounce in his step.
Puzzler returned home and delivered the paint to Cabdriver who eagerly pried open the can.
"Hmm, this doesn't look quite right," she said with a frown. "What brand is this?"
"Maybe it just needs stirring," suggested Puzzler. "Uh oh, I forgot the stirrers ... but I did remember the yardstick!"
"Let me see that," said Cabdriver, holding out her hand.
"You're not going to whack me with it are you?"
"No, but look at these numbers. I can't use that to measure anything."
"I guess I'll just throw it away then," said Puzzler.
"Surely you can find some way to use it or at least recycle it," said Cabdriver.
Puzzler studied the yardstick for a moment. Then a smile crept over his face and he dashed for the door.
"Where are you going?" called Cabdriver.
"To hide a cache!" he replied.
